SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The seventh-ranked CSI volleyball team suffered its first back-to-back losses of the season on Saturday at the Bruin Bash, falling to Odessa College and top ranked Miami Dade to finish up their nonconference schedule.
In game one, the Golden Eagles got off to a great start, taking the first set 25-23 before the Wranglers bounced back and took the next three sets 25-17, 25-22, 25-14.
Freshman Bilge Avcu led the way offensively with 10 kills, while fellow freshman setter Mary Irwin dished out 23 assists. Emerson Heatwole paced the Golden Eagles with 18 of the team's 64 digs.
In game two, the Golden Eagles knew they were in for a challenge, squaring off with the top ranked team in the country in Miami Dade. The Golden Eagles were never able to find a rhythm, as the Sharks jumped out early and never looked back, winning 25-14, 25-15, 25-21 in straight sets.
Vivian Goto notched seven kills and Irwin dished out another team-high 12 assists in the loss.
The Golden Eagles, now 11-4 on the year, will have a week off before jumping into conference play on Sept. 25, when they host Utah State University-Eastern.
