TWIN FALLS — A jury trial for a former Kimberly woman who police say defrauded a youth sports organization is set for four days in July.
Jennifer Marie Stephenson, 39, was charged in February with four felony counts of grand theft, two felony counts of tax evasion and one misdemeanor account of petit theft.

BOISE — Longtime Idaho political fixture Martin L. “Marty” Peterson, 76, pleaded guilty Thursday to two felony counts of child pornography possession in a deal with prosecutors that led to the dismissal of 12 other charges.
Both crimes Peterson pleaded to took place between January 2015 and October 2019, and involved the sexual exploitation of a child, according to court records. The children in some images were as young as 8, prosecutors said.

CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo. — A Magic Valley woman who was having an affair with a Colorado man and helped him after he beat his fiancee to death with a baseball bat was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison.
Krystal Lee, 33, acknowledged in February 2019 that she helped clean up the bloody crime scene after Patrick Frazee killed Kelsey Berreth at her townhome in Woodland Park, a mountain community of 7,500 people about two hours south of Denver. The sentence was the maximum allowed under a plea deal.

BUHL — A man is dead after a police chase that ended mid-afternoon Saturday in Gooding County, police say.
The chase began in Buhl and ended at 1475 E. 3600 S., southwest of Wendell, Buhl Police Sgt. Jeremy Engbaum told the Times-News on Monday.

Cassia County Undersheriff George Warrell said Jan. 27 that the inmate died Friday night at the Mini-Cassia Criminal Justice Center.

GOODING — Police were justified in shooting and killing a man who led them on a high-speed chase through three counties, Gooding County Prosecutor Matt Pember announced Jan. 24 following an investigation.
David James Bamber Jr., 28, of Pleasanton, California, died at the scene of his crashed vehicle after the Oct. 15 chase.

WELLS, Nev. — A sleepy driver from Twin Falls got a big wake-up call early Sunday morning when he was arrested for possession of meth, heroin and cocaine in Nevada, officials said.
According to the Elko County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was called to a gas station in Wells, Nevada, shortly after midnight on a report of trespassing. Upon arrival, the deputy saw two people in a vehicle that was parked and running. The driver appeared to be sleeping.

BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot attorney Justin Oleson has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery dating back to September for an incident that allegedly took place during the Eastern Idaho State Fair.
Oleson was charged by Twin Falls Prosecutor Grant Loebs, who is acting as special prosecutor in the matter and acted after two boys and their parents insisted that battery charges be filed.

GARDEN CITY — Police booked a 30-year-old man into jail Sunday morning on suspicion of second-degree murder and obstructing police after a man was found dead earlier that day.
Emerson Clyde Buck, of Garden City, remains in custody at the Ada County Jail. The 55-year-old victim was reportedly found dead in the 200 block of 40th Street with a stab wound to the neck, according to a press release from Garden City Police.

BURLEY — A man being booked into jail on charges he stole from Walmart unwittingly tipped police off to another crime when he asked if he was also being charged with grand theft auto.
Manuel Jacuinde, 29, was arrested on Jan. 3 at the North Burley Walmart, court records show. Police recovered a stolen vehicle in Heyburn using the car’s GPS.

BOISE — A Meridian-based company agreed last month to pay $5 million to daughters of a Dietrich woman killed by one of its employees in a Jerome County drunken driving crash in 2017.
BSR Ventures, Advanced Heating and Cooling, and then-employee Larry Halbert of Caldwell agreed Dec. 30 to pay that sum to family members of Cheryl Miller after attorneys representing the family made the offer to settle the suit. Fourth District Court Judge Lynn Norton on Jan. 3 entered a judgment awarding the money to the family. According to the lawsuit’s complaint, Advanced Heating and Cooling is a business name assumed by BSR Ventures.

TWIN FALLS — Suspects in a counterfeiting ring were caught after they passed two fake $100 bills at a convenience store Monday then invited a clerk to party with them, police say.
Police arrested Equalette Marie Ballesteros, 34; Matthew Islas Rodriguez, 22; Nicole Marie Perez, 34; and Richard John Hernandez, 28, on Tuesday. Ballesteros, Rodriguez and Perez face felony counterfeiting-related charges in Twin Falls County District Court, and Hernandez is facing the same, plus burglary charges, in Jerome County District Court.

At a status conference Monday, Cassia County District Judge Michael Tribe agreed to move the jury trial for Gilberto Flores Rodriguez from April 20 to Sept. 9, Deputy District Court Clerk Tara Gunderson said Monday.
