Girls athlete of the week: Saydi Anderson, Minico

Anderson had a chance to beat rival Burley on Saturday night, but her contested layup attempt bounced of the rim as time expired. The miss was one of Anderson’s few blemishes this past week. The senior led the Minico girls basketball team to the Great Basin Conference tournament semifinals with 27 points in a 49-42 win over Jerome on Thursday. In Saturday’s 46-45 semifinal loss to the Bobcats, Anderson scored a game-high 14 points.

Boys athlete of the week: Kobe Matsen, Minico

The Minico boys basketball team started the week with a 66-53 loss to Twin Falls on Wednesday, but Matsen was not the problem. The junior scored 13 points on 5-of-9 field goal shooting (3-of-3 on 3-pointers). Two days later, Matsen scored 31 points (13-of-18 from the field, 1-of-1 from 3, 4-of-5 from the free-throw line) and grabbed 16 rebounds in an 84-61 win over Wood River.
