SALT LAKE CITY — The College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball team prolonged its winning streak with a 115-77 win over Rexburg United on Saturday.
The win on the final day of the Salt Lake CC Invitational was CSI’s ninth in a row after falling to Western Nebraska CC on Nov. 10.
CSI freshman forward Khalid Thomas scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds. Danya Kingsby had 15 points and four rebounds, and fellow sophomore guard Jake Hendricks — who made four 3-pointers — poured in 14 points.
Freshman forward Malik Porter grabbed 11 rebounds, and sophomore guard Charles Jones Jr. dished out 10 assists.
The 9th-ranked Golden Eagles (9-1) return to Twin Falls this coming week to host the Hilex Poly Invitational. They take on Blue Mountain CC on Friday night.
CSI women fall to No. 4-ranked team
SALT LAKE CITY — In perhaps its toughest test of the season thus far, the CSI women’s basketball team lost in blowout fashion.
The Golden Eagles, ranked 15th in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, fell to No. 4 New Mexico Junior College 78-44 Saturday afternnon to conclude the Salt Lake CC Invitational. The loss ended CSI’s winning streak at seven games.
New Mexico nearly doubled up CSI’s field goal percentage (51 to 27 percent), and the Golden Eagles made just 7 percent of their 3-pointers and 25 percent of their free throws.
CSI sophomore wing Tiena Afu had a double-double (12 points, 13 rebounds), as well as four assists. Sophomore forward Katie Hughes, a Filer High School graduate, scored nine points and grabbed three rebounds.
The Golden Eagles (11-2) will play at home this weekend in the Hilex Poly Invitational. They’ll face Western Wyoming CC on Saturday night for their only game of the tournament.
