HENDERSON, Nev. — The College of Southern Idaho softball team began the 2018 season with a loss. Luckily for the Golden Eagles, they had two more games before the day ended, and they won both.

After falling 3-2 to Pima Community College Friday morning, CSI beat Arizona Western College 8-7 and Eastern Arizona College 11-1 to finish the first day of the College of Southern Nevada Tournament.

CSI and Pima accounted for only five hits in their game, but 10 walks allowed by Golden Eagle pitchers played a big role in the loss. Sophomore Stefani Zimmerman hit a home run — one of three hits for CSI in the game.

Nicole Renner had a big day at the plate. The sophomore went 2-for-3 with a double against Pima, 2-for-3 against Arizona Western and 2-for-2 with a home run and a double against Eastern Arizona.

Against Arizona Western, Melanie Groenewegen went 3-for-4 with a three-run double, and fellow sophomore Hailey Hicks went 2-for-3.

Hicks also hit a home run against Eastern Arizona, and freshman Anjalee Batchelor went 2-of-3 with a triple. Sophomore Kylie Jones allowed one hit in five innings in the third game.

The Golden Eagles wrap up the CSN Tournament on Saturday against a pair of teams ranked in the NJCAA Division I poll. First, they face No. 6 Yavapai College, and they finish the day against No. 4 Central Arizona.
