ST. GEORGE, Utah — The College of Southern Idaho baseball team finished a four-game series sweep of Northeastern Junior College, and it earned Saturday’s win in comeback fashion.
Northeastern scored two runs in the top of the first inning and held the 2-0 lead until the bottom of the fourth, when CSI scored three runs. Northeastern tied it the next inning, took a 4-3 lead in the seventh and went up 7-3 in the eighth.
The Golden Eagles responded with five runs in the bottom of the eighth to take an 8-7 lead, and that was the final score.
In that five-run inning, Ryke Erickson hit a leadoff single, followed by walks from Travis Bohall and Nick Dolce. With one out, Hayden Leatham drove Erickson and Bohall in with a double, and Cannon Secrist drove in two more runs with a single. Secrist advanced to second base on an error, and Brett Resch singled him in for the final run.
Secrist went 3-for-3 with a walk, Leatham was 2-for-4 and Erickson finished 2-for-3.
CSI starter Trent Bixby allowed three unearned runs on four hits, four walks and four strikeouts in five innings pitched. Minico High School graduate Jaden Jensen got the final two outs in the top of the eighth inning and was credited with the win.
CSI (10-2) will host Dawson Community College for a four-game series, beginning with a doubleheader on Friday.
CSI basketball teams handle CNCC
RANGELY, Colo. — The CSI men’s and women’s basketball teams both blew out Colorado Northwestern Community College on Saturday for Scenic West Athletic Conference victories.
The CSI men beat CNCC 101-65, and the women cruised 89-49. No other details were available.
The Golden Eagles will host Snow on Thursday for their final games of the regular season. The CSI women (21-8, 6-5) will tip off at 5:30 p.m., and the men (25-4, 9-2) will play after the women’s game concludes.
