College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball players Charles Jones Jr. and Danya Kingsby have been suspended indefinitely for a “violation of team rules,” head coach Jared Phay told the Times-News Monday morning.

Both players failed drug tests, according to sources close to the program who wished to remain anonymous.

Phay said the players will miss at least two games, including a home tilt Thursday with Scenic West Athletic Conference rival Salt Lake Community College, which is ranked No. 4 in NJCAA Division I.

Jones Jr. and Kingsby are both guards in their sophomore seasons with the Golden Eagles, and both have signed with Division I programs. Jones Jr. is headed to the University of Utah, while Kingsby is set to join the University of Pittsburgh.

Jones Jr. and Kingbsy are No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, in minutes played per game this season for No. 12-ranked CSI. Jones Jr. leads the team and the conference with 20.2 points per game on a 47.7 field goal percentage, while Kingsby averages 12.4 points per game (fourth on the team) on 48.4 percent shooting. Kingsby and Jones Jr. are also first and second, respectively, in assists among Golden Eagles, and Kingsby is second among SWAC players in assists per game (4.6).

CSI is 21-3 overall on the season, and 5-1 in SWAC play. Six games remain for the Golden Eagles before the Region 18 tournament begins.
