TWIN FALLS — The College of Southern Idaho women’s basketball team improved to 9-1 after blowing out Chemeketa Community College Saturday night to end the Coca-Cola Invitational.

The Golden Eagles shot 50 percent (40-of-80) from the field and 52.2. percent (12-of-23) from 3-point range in the win.

CSI’s Jamie Nielsen (6-of-9 on field goals, 4-of-6 on 3s) and Mallory Lapoole (7-of-10 on FGs) each scored 16 points to lead all players. Gabriella Bruno (3-of-3 on 3s) chipped in 11.

Jerome High School graduate Kaela McClure had seven points and seven assists. Tiena Afu added eight points and 13 rebounds, and Filer High School graduate had eight points, six rebounds and a game-high five steals.

The Golden Eagles hosts Treasure Valley CC on Tuesday night.

CSI men stay hot in win over Western Wyoming

TWIN FALLS — The College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball team didn’t approach 199 points this time, but the offense remained blistering in a 120-106 win over Western Wyoming CC Saturday night at the Coca-Cola Invitational.

On the night, the Golden Eagles shot 55.1 percent (43-of-78) from the field, 20-of-33 (60.6 percent) from 3-point range and 14-of-19 (73.7 percent) from the free-throw line.

One of CSI’s leading scorers in the 199-118 win over Planet Academy on Friday night outdid himself a day later. Sophomore guard Charles Jones Jr. scored a game-high 42 points on stellar shooting: 14-of-22 from the field, 8-of-12 from beyond the arc and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. He also dished out eight assists.

Fellow sophomore Jake Hendricks scored 26 points (9-of-13 on FGs, 6-of-9 on 3s) and grabbed eight rebounds.

The 10th-ranked Golden Eagles (9-1) travel to Salt Lake City this coming weekend for the Salt Lake CC Invitational. They take on Portland CC on Friday.
