SALT LAKE CITY — In their third game against Salt Lake Community College this season, the College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball team finally earned a victory.

The No. 11-ranked Golden Eagles beat the No. 6 Bruins 81-79 in overtime Thursday night. CSI and SLCC have gone to overtime in each of their last two matchups.

CSI only shot 35.4 percent from the field (42.6 percent for SLCC), but it out-rebounded the Bruins 58-45, including 23-9 on the offensive glass.

Leading CSI’s rebounding charge was Tommy Burton, who grabbed 19 boards to go along with a game-high 21 points (6-of-13 from the field, 9-of-11 from the free-throw line). He also had six steals and no turnovers.

Elsewhere for the Golden Eagles, Roberto Gittens had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Khalid Thomas had 11 and eight.

CSI (24-4 overall) and SLCC (25-3) are now tied in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings at 8-2, with the Bruins holding a 2-1 head-to-head advantage.

Two regular season games remain.

The Golden Eagles will play at Colorado Northwestern CC on Saturday.

SLCC women roll past CSI

SALT LAKE CITY — The CSI women’s basketball team was never close in Thursday’s road loss to No. 11-ranked Salt Lake CC.

The Bruins jumped out to a 16-1 lead en route to a 74-48 Scenic West Athletic Conference win.

CSI (20-8, 5-5) will stay on the road for its next game, Saturday at Colorado Northwestern CC in the second-to-last game of the regular season.

CSI baseball starts four-game series with win

ST. GEORGE, Utah — The CSI baseball team earned a 6-3 win over Northeastern Junior College in the first of a four-game series.

CSI took a 3-0 lead in the second inning but lost it in the top of the third, when Northeastern scored three runs. The Golden Eagles responded with a run in the bottom half, and they never trailed again.

CSI’s Travis Bohall went 3-for-4 with a double and a hit-by pitch, and Brett Resch went 1-for-4 with a triple. Boden Mills pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings in relief for the Golden Eagles, with four hits, a walk and five strikeouts.

CSI (7-2) plays the second game of the series Friday at 1 p.m.
