LAS VEGAS — The College of Southern Idaho baseball team started the season 3-1 after winning the series finale against Scottsdale Community College 10-6 Saturday afternoon.
After the Artichokes took a 3-2 lead in the top of the second inning, CSI’s Hayden Leatham hit a grand slam over the left field wall. Scottsdale tied it up in the top of the eighth inning, but the Golden Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Brandon Soucy pitched a three-up, three-down ninth inning to secure the win.
Travis Bohall led the Golden Eagles in hits, going 3-for-5 and scoring two runs from the leadoff position.
CSI will travel to Henderson, Nev., on Friday to play in the College of Southern Nevada Kickoff Classic, opening against Cochise College.
CSI softball ends Shootout with two blowout wins
YUMA, Ariz. — The CSI softball team run-ruled two teams on Saturday to finish the Arizona Western Shootout with a 4-3 record. The Golden Eagles beat South Mountain CC 10-2 and Glendale CC 14-4.
Against South Mountain, Stefani Zimmerman got the win on the mound, allowing only three hits in five innings. Nicole Renner went 2-for-3 from the plate with a home run. Courtney Argyle and Melanie Groenewegen went perfect from the plate, combining for a 5-for-5 performance.
In the second game, against Glendale CC, Kamryn Grover struck out eight batters as she earned the five-inning win. Groenewegen led the way offensively, going 1-for-2 with a three-run home run. Hailey Hicks hit two doubles in her 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
CSI (8-4) won’t be back in action until Feb. 23, when it hosts Dawson CC.
