QUESTION: Did the Cardinals make the right move promoting Mike Shildt during the season last year? Why mess with something that was working?
GOOLD: That's why they did it. It was working. That's all. It was quick. It was a surprise that they didn't do a search -- because that would have been within their right and I think would have made a lot of sense. They should have interviewed the best available options and that likely would have fortified why they felt Shildt was such a good fit for them, but they also would have looked outside.
I think in some ways the Cardinals owed that to their history. Check out all of the options. And likely make the move they did anyway after gathering that knowledge.
