LOS ANGELES (AP) — A California judge on Wednesday cleared the way for conservative talk radio host Larry Elder to join the field of candidates for an upcoming recall election aimed at removing Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom from office.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California on Thursday scheduled a Sept. 14 recall election that could drive Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom from office, the result of a political uprising largely driven by angst over state coronavirus orders that shuttered schools and businesses and upended life for millions of Californians.

Gavin Newsom said in September that all new cars and trucks sold in the state would be zero-emission by 2035. The British government announced in November that it would ban sales of gas and diesel cars in 2030.

Joe Biden’s selection of Kamala Harris was a first step in paying back the Black voters who did so much to revive his political fortunes in South Carolina.  But if Biden is elected, he will have an incredible opportunity to elevate an unprecedented number of new Black governors -- due to the high number of Black lieutenant governors poised to move up if a vacancy occurs – and perhaps a few United States senators as well.  (He could also “create” California’s first woman governor and several Hispanic and Native American governors.)
