16. Sea of Stars — Vaadhoo Island, Maldives

The shores of Vaadhoo Island, part of the Maldives in the Indian Ocean, are home to a magical natural show that have earned its waters the nickname "Sea of Stars." When disturbed, microorganisms called dinoflagellates in the water emit a bluish glow, much like aquatic fireflies. They congregate in the billions near Vaadhoo and other neighboring islands in the Maldives, where the right conditions create a phenomena that rivals the splendor of the night sky overhead.
