Twin Falls needs some form of public transportation soon. In the City Council Review Draft of the City Strategic Plan it makes note of a public transportation system and states, "Given the dispersed development pattern of Twin Falls, the lack of local funding and limited state and federal support, innovative solutions are called for."
This is an issue which will not only benefit disadvantaged groups like senior citizens, the disabled and refugees but will mobilize a portion of our workforce thereby boosting our local economy. A fixed bus route system may not be the answer, as Rep. Steven Hartgen has pointed out, but if not then what? The City Council should call a series of public hearings on this matter. City ordinances may need to be changed or adapted to accommodate a new public transportation system. This process alone will take time and should be included in the Transportation Master Plan.
With a new metropolitan designation, the people of Twin Falls must rise to the occasion and find an "innovative solution" to the problem. Let us work together to find a solution for the benefit of the common good.
