HANSEN — Ever had your spine tingle? Or felt the hair rise on the back of your neck? If not, you’ll have that chance at the week’s end.

Spooky stories, sights and sounds will abound Friday and Saturday at the historic Rock Creek Stage Station and Stricker Homesite south of Hansen.

“Even if you’ve been to Stricker After Dark before, this year will be something new and different,” said Jennifer Hills, president of Friends of Stricker and descendant of Herman and Lucy Stricker.

At this year’s Stricker After Dark, volunteers will take guests on a candlelit tour of the 1900 Stricker home along the Old Oregon Trail.

Guests can also take a moonlit stroll through the grounds, sit by a roaring campfire, or visit the Interpretive Center.

Thousands of emigrants in the 19th century stopped at the site to rest. Some never left, and are buried in a nearby cemetery.

The house tour is recommended for ages 6 and up, and children cannot be carried on the tour.

All the proceeds from Stricker After Dark stay at the Stricker site and will go toward maintaining and preserving the site.
