Ormand Francis Burch

April 11, 1930 - February 10, 2017

POCATELLO - Ormand Francis Burch, 86 of Pocatello formally of Burley, returned to our Heavenly Father on February 10, 2017.

Ormand was born in Oakley Idaho on April 11, 1930, to Raymond and Bertha Hardy Burch. He was the oldest of 5 children. He and his family moved to Burley, in March of 1938 and then to Heyburn December 1938, where he lived on a farm his growing up years. He graduated from Heyburn High School in 1948. He was active in sports, football , basketball, and track. He spent six years in the Idaho National Guard.

He married Verlie McCulloch in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on February 24, 1955. They lived in Burley and Ormand drove truck for Handy Truck Line for ten years. He then decided to go into business with his father-in-law. So in 1959 they moved with their two small daughters to California to attend the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science where he graduated as one of the top students in his class, receiving the Mu Sigma Alpha Mortuary Science award. They returned to Burley and entered into business with McCulloch Funeral Home. Retiring in 1993.

Ormand was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Ormand had a strong Testimony of the gospel. And served in many positions including President of the YMMIA, assistant ward clerk and ward clerk, ward executive secretary, assistant stake clerk and stake clerk for six years, Bishop of the Burley Second Ward for five years , and on the stake high council.

Ormand had his private pilots license and enjoyed flying. He also enjoyed sports, water skiing, snow skiing, and golf. He spent his retirement years on the golf course. He was also active in civic affairs. Being a member of the Chamber of Commerce; member of the Lions Club for over 30 years serving as treasure and president; past treasurer of the Cassia County Chapter of the American Red Cross; member of the Planning and Zoning Commission; chairman of the referee program for the little league football when if first started in Burley. He was a member of the Idaho Funeral Directors Association and past president of the South Central Idaho Dist. Funeral Directors.

Ormand's family was his pride and joy. He never missed a ball game, track meet, dance recital or horseshow, of his children , grandchildren, and even great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Ormand is survived by his wife of 62 years Verlie Burch, his children Terri (Dan) Kidd of Declo, Dianne (Greg) Thain of Rupert and Greg (Tammy) Burch of Chubbuck. Eleven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. His sister Wilda Burch of Idaho Falls, and brother Kent (Enid) Burch of Firth. Ormand is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Bertha Burch; sister Vivian Burch; brother John Burch; and great granddaughter Oakley Ozburn.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Burley Stake Center, 2050 Normal Ave in Burley. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Friends may call Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert and from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Church prior to the funeral. Arrangement are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home,188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert.
