BURLEY — Lavera Mae Shipp, age 91, of Burley, died Sunday, September 10, 2017, at Parke View Rehabilitation and Care Center.
She was born May 4, 1926, in Hay Springs, Nebraska, to John Shipp and Antoinette Etta Peters Shipp. After graduating from high school in Hay Springs, she and her sister Lauretta enrolled at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Alliance, Nebraska. After completion of the three-year course, they became registered nurses in 1947.
While yet in Nebraska, they nursed at Alliance, Chadron, and Scott’s Bluff before relocating to Ketchikan, Alaska to nurse. Lavera later moved to Portland, Oregon where she worked as a pediatric nurse for many years. After retiring from her nursing career, she moved to Burley, Idaho, where she spent the remainder of her life.
Lavera was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a kind and compassionate soul who was always there when someone needed help. She was loved by her family and she will be missed.
She is survived by her brothers, Laurence Shipp of Miles City, Montana, and Raymond Shipp of Pennsylvania; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Etta; brothers, Richard and Stanley; and her twin sister with whom she nursed many years, Lauretta.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Parke View for the excellent care they gave to Lavera in her final years.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—Burley West Stake Center, located at 2420 Parke Ave., with Bishop Kerry McMurray officiating. Where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery.
