BURLEY – Janice Ida Schlimgen Spanbauer, a 95-year-old resident of Burley, died Sunday, May 6, 2018, in Twin Falls.
She was born March 17, 1923, in Parkston, South Dakota, to John M. “Jack” and Julia Ellen (Herrmann) Schlimgen. She married Paul Spanbauer on September 29, 1941, in Blackfoot. Together, they farmed in Blackfoot until 1960 when they moved to Malta. In 1965, they farmed in the Idahome area and later purchased Riviera Farms in Raft River, Idaho. Later in life, Paul and Janice were ‘snowbirds’—living in their home in Arizona.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother! She had a way of making everyone feel like they were the favorite. She was a great bowler, participating on several leagues. She loved to golf, read, and do crossword puzzles and was an avid card player. Everyone who met her, loved her and knew she was a kind, sweet, loving person and was a favorite of many of her caregivers. Throughout her life she was known for her positive attitude and of never having a bad day.
Survivors include her children, Jeanie (Bob) McDonald of Kimberly, Dennis (Marie) Spanbauer of Lewisville, Jackie Higley of Twin Falls, and Craig Spanbauer of Blackfoot; one sister, Bonnie (Wes) Poulson, of Las Vegas, Nevada; 17 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; a son-in-law, Blaine Higley; and her daughter-in-law, Linda Spanbauer.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 1601 Oakley Ave., in Burley, with the Rev. Father Julio Vincente as celebrant. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Friday, prior to the funeral Mass.
