June 9, 1932—November 3, 2017
Betty E Bishop, a longtime resident of Bliss, Idaho, passed away in her sleep in her home on Friday, November 3, 2017.
Mom was born in Acequia, Idaho, the only daughter of Dick and Stella Reed. She met Samuel Bishop Jr. in the summer of 1948. They were married March 12th, 1949 in Gooding and began their life together. They built a two-room house on an acreage in Bliss and moved into it in the fall of 1950. Mom and Dad lived together in that home until he passed away on May 22nd, 2011.
Mom considered being a wife and a mother to be the highest calling in her life. She set the standards for being clean and neat, and for orderly conduct. Mom was also known for her sense of humor and helped people she met feel at ease.
Mom came to know her Savior in her 40s. Her faith in the Lord gave her such great hope and confidence of life beyond death that she was looking forward to laying her tired body down and being with her loved ones again.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her oldest son (David Bishop), a granddaughter (Heather Hobdey), and her oldest brother (Jim Reed). Left behind are her two younger brothers, Bill Reed of Oregon and Bob Reed of Canada. Her living children are her son, S H Bishop of Bliss (Cheryl Bishop) of Bliss, Idaho, and her daughters, April Pohl (David) of Farmington, New Mexico, and Nell Thompson of Glenns Ferry, Idaho. She also left 9 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She also preceded her two younger brothers, Bill Reed of Oregon and Bob Reed of Canada.
The family would like to thank Mom’s best friend for the past several years, Cindy Simms, and to Teresa Miller and staff at Idaho Home Health and Hospice. Cindy and Teresa made it possible for Mom to come to the end of her life the same way she lived it; quietly, joyfully, and in her own home.
Memorial services will be conducted by Pastor Larry Walton at the Bliss Community Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 8. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Bliss Community Church to provide food to feed the hungry.
