PAUL – Delmas Vavra Beaver, an 82-year-old resident of Paul, passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho, from a sudden and massive heart attack.
He was born Oct. 15, 1936, in Heyburn, Idaho, to Hylak V. and Adaline (Ames) Beaver. He attended school at Heyburn Elementary, Junior and Senior High School, graduating in 1954. He attended Idaho State University Vo-tech in the mechanics program. In 1955, he married his sweetheart, Jacqueline “Jackie” Slater, at the United Methodist Church in Burley. They moved to his parents’ farm in the Emerson District of Minidoka County. Their son, Gary, and daughters, Laura and Connie were born.
Delmas worked for Otha McGill and Kloepfer Concrete driving truck. He served in the United States Army National Guard for several years. He then joined his parents in their farming and cattle operation with the Beaver Machine and Cattle Co., being formed. He continued caring for the farm and cattle until this past Friday—the day he was admitted to the hospital. He would drive the neighborhood making sure the cattle were where they were supposed to be and were okay, stopping to talk to the neighbors each day. He will be missed for his happy smile and pleasant greetings by these wonderful neighbors. Later, his son, Gary, joined the operation and finally a grandson, Jesse, that has completed “the team.” They purchased additional farm ground, rented ground and continued farming the original farm, which became an “Idaho Century Ranch, established in 1904’; the criteria, “ a farm or ranch being operated by members of the same family, who homesteaded it, for more than 100 years.”
He was very proud of his family, successes in farming/ranching, community service, and helping his father start a 4-H club called Clover Club Livestock. He was joined by his wife, Jackie, when Gary got married and started his family; Gary and Bené later took over the club. Currently, grandson, Jesse, and his wife, Laura, are now the leaders of the original club. A granddaughter, Lane, is also a 4-H leader. With 4-H being very important to the family, his mother, Adaline, was a 4-H leader for more than 40 years, and his sisters, Darleen and Carleen, each being leaders at this time. Total years of service has to be in the hundreds of years. Additionally, Delmas was a member of the Idaho Cattle Association and the Rupert Elks.

Wherever we go and whatever we do,
let us live with this remembrance in our hearts…that we are family.
What we give to one another comes full circle,
may we always be the best of friends;
May we always be one another’s rainbow on a cloudy day;
as we have been yesterday and today to each other.
May we be so blessed in all our tomorrows…over and over again.
For we are family, and that means love that has no end.

Thomas A. Rudy, 79, of Burley, Idaho passed away at his home on Friday, December 28, 2018, from complications of Parkinson’s and dementia. Tom was born in Wendell, Idaho on April 5, 1939, to Paul and Helen Rudy. They both died while Tom was very young and he lived with his Aunt Maxine Stroder and Cousin Gary for the rest of his childhood. Tom was a delegate to Boy’s State in 1956 and graduated from Jerome High School in 1957. Tom enjoyed LOTS of music and was a disc jockey at KART Radio in Jerome in 1956 and later at KOMA in Oklahoma City. He also worked at KEEP in Twin Falls, Idaho under the name of Cactus Jack Rudy. Although he enjoyed spinning the discs and always loved the music, he knew that was not his final calling. He still loved top 40, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty and many others from over the years.
Tom was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity at the University of Idaho where he attended for a short time. We’ve been told he had a bit of a wild streak. He later attended Oregon State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.
Tom had two children, Kimberly and Gregory Thomas (GT), with his first wife Jill Newcomb. They later divorced and Tom moved to Burley, Idaho where he met and married Arlene Muir in 1972. Tom worked at JR Simplot for several years and was truly a potato expert! After his service at JR Simplot, Tom was self-employed as a farmer and business man. He traveled near and far on potato business including a trip to Thailand. He had many good friends and partners in the farming business and worked the harvest and planting every year until he couldn’t. He loved agriculture and especially growing potatoes and helping with the harvest. He always looked forward to that season of the year.
Tom was raised in the Catholic Church and was recently attending services again at St. Therese Little Flower Church in Burley, Idaho, when he could.
Football was a favorite past time of Tom’s and he was a devoted Beaver fan who loved to talk about Oregon State “Beavs” especially with those poor Duck fans. The Oakland Raiders and Notre Dame were also his top picks. Although he was not thrilled about the pending move of the Raiders to Las Vegas, we know he would have still tuned into every game! He kept up on the coaches and the stats and loved discussing all the sports.
Tom loved getting to attend the sporting events of his grandkids including football, gymnastics and softball. He also was able to attend some plays and programs of great grandkids and had fun doing that.
Preceding Tom in death were his parents, Paul and Helen Rudy, his Aunts Maxine Stroder, Lois Rudy and Margaret La Porte. August 11, 1962—December 18, 2018
Larry Bothof, 56 formerly of Twin Falls Idaho, and recently of Moultrie Georgia, entered the arms of his Savior on December 18, 2018. He was a life long private pilot who was enjoying his passion for aviation when he flew through heavens gates. He was born August 11, 1962 to Gertrude and Gary Bothof in Bellflower, California. Larry lived most of his life in Idaho, where he enjoyed all things adventurous. He met the love of his life, Cheryl Mingo and they married on December 17, 2005.
Larry was a devoted husband, father, and papa. Anyone who met Larry became a friend because he never met anyone who left as a stranger. He had a smile on his face that stress and life could never steal. The joy of the Lord was truly his strength and came from deep inside his soul and out to every person he came in contact with. No one left untouched by his joy. Larry’s passion for life was unmatched and an amazing gift to all who were blessed to share life with him. He was a man of many gifts, he could fix or repair anything his hands touched and if he didn’t know how, he would figure it out and redesign it to work better than before.
In passing he not only leaves behind his loving best friend and wife, Cheryl Mingo Bothof; sons, Levi Thomas (Brianna), and Evan Dean. Stepchildren, Steven Mingo (Louisa), Emily Rice (Tyler Robinson) and Alex Slemp; four grandblessings, Korbin, Kasen, Tucker, and Everleigh; his parents, Gertrude & Gary Bothof; brother, Steve (Donna); sister, Lori Hill (Roy); many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The gift God gave the world in Larry Bothof was cherished by many and his absence will be deeply felt. His heart was the same as his Jesus...that no one leave this earth without the heartfelt love of knowing Jesus Christ and living for him. Larry lived that daily in his relationships, giving to others and sharing the gospel with whoever God laid on his heart. His smile would be even bigger today if he knew someone fell in love with Jesus through hearing of his passing. What a celebration heaven is having!
There will be a service in Twin Falls at Amazing Grace Fellowship, 1061 Eastland Drive North Twin Falls, Idaho for his Idaho friends and family January 11th 2019 at 5:00 p.m.

MERIDIAN – Ralph F. Peak passed away on December 30, 2018, at the age of 93, a few days after celebrating his 66th wedding anniversary and the Christmas holidays with his family.
He was born in 1925, to Paul and Verl Peak, the second of four brothers in Denver, Colorado. He proudly served his country in the Field Artillery during World War II, and in the Chemical Corps during the Korean War. He was a chemical engineer, avid reader, devoted husband and loving father.
Gifted in math and science and the ability to create things, he received a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington in 1955 and had a varied and interesting career spanning the use of slide rules to the use of computer technology. In the military at Dugway Proving Ground, he specialized in the testing of chemical weapons, and in his later civilian career with Boeing in the safe management of hazardous materials. He most enjoyed his decades as mill superintendent for Union Carbide and subsidiaries, designing and improving processes for refining uranium, vanadium, and tungsten ores.
Ralph met Mary Lou Pierce during the summer of 1951 when they both served at Dugway, and married December 22, 1952. They had four children, Lois, Frank, Marie, and Jim, and also welcomed David and Ned (sons from a previous marriage) into the family when their mother died. Ralph was a supportive husband and encouraged his wife’s medical career. Their professional lives and love of adventure took them on a life journey through six states and 21 different homes. They also traveled to four continents continuing to learn new things and meet new people to put on their Christmas card list.
Ralph was a dedicated family man. Patient and supportive, he rarely criticized or spoke ill of anyone. He was always there for his children, and happy to help with tough homework problems and school projects. His after-work hours were filled with listening to and encouraging his children, driving carpool, coaching Little League and leading Boy Scouts. He believed in education and loved books, leading his children on weekly trips to the local library, and spending many quiet hours lost between the covers of books. Science fiction and historical fiction were his personal favorites, and he enjoyed looking things up in the encyclopedia, talking about interesting facts, and reading the daily comics.
Ralph was always thinking about how to make procedures better and more efficient. In 1967, after taking a defensive driving course, he suggested a new safety guideline for vehicle following distance that was adopted by the National Transportation Safety Board. The change was – from one vehicle length for every 10 miles per hour, to three seconds at any speed.
His hobbies as a young man included skiing, hiking, rock polishing and climbing in the Flatirons of Colorado. In later life he enjoyed photography, film developing, stamp collecting, making and furnishing tiny dollhouses for his daughters and granddaughters, and playing pinochle with his wife and friends.

Merlen grew up in the Rupert area and graduated from high school in 1952. He served a 3-year mission to France and Belgium for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and completed a 2-year tour in Germany for the U.S. Army. Highly intelligent, exquisitely polite, shy until provoked, heroine to her children, reliable friend to many, Ynes (“Eenie”) Mary Alastra Kelly passed after a short illness on January 3, 2019, less than two months shy of her 100th birthday.
Eenie lived like many children of pioneering Basque sheepmen. Born in a Basque boarding house in Ogden, Utah, her childhood was spent on the Alastra sheep ranches in Hazelton, Middle Mountain (south of Oakley), and in the northwest Utah mountains around Lynn, Utah. For elementary school, Eenie studied in the historic two room Greenwood schoolhouse near Hazelton. Owing to the remoteness of the Alastra ranches, Eenie boarded at Bilbao’s Basque boarding house in Twin Falls during high school and graduated with the Twin Falls High School.
Following high school, Eenie served as Secretary or Treasurer of several ladies social organizations, sang in St. Edward’s Choir, and played piano with friends. Adventurous, she learned to fly, enjoyed camping with friends, and danced the jota at Basque gatherings.
After graduation from Twin Falls Business School, she worked as a bookkeeper at C. C. Anderson department store and as secretary to Harry Eaton, president of the Twin Falls Bank and Trust. While working full time, she also served as a nurse’s aid at the hospital during the war, when there was a shortage of medical personnel.
In 1945, she married James Patrick Kelly, a tall, forceful Philadelphia Marine sergeant fresh from Fifth Defense Battalion, Second Marine Division battles at Funafuti and bloody Tarawa islands. That began a very different life for Eenie with the quick arrival of three children, homesteading east of Jerome, and helping in the family steel pipe and electrical contracting businesses. She taught Catechism for over twenty years in St. Jerome’s Parish. She sent three children to Harvard, and played a part in her two grandchildren Mary Louise and C.J. also graduating with Harvard degrees. She enjoyed listening to her granddaughter Mary Louise Kelly’s daily news anchor broadcasts on National Public Radio.
At age 60, she enrolled in the College of Southern Idaho, studying computers. She amused her younger classmates with wry commentary, much of it gleaned from twenty years as Chairwoman of the Jerome County Democratic Party, membership in the Idaho Democratic State Committee, and as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
After CSI, Eenie started computer bookkeeping at Gem Religious and later Gem State Trophy, where she kept the books until age 89. She won the U.S. Department of Labor Outstanding Idaho Senior Worker Award, given her with congressional fanfare in 2003.
Retiring in 2008, Eenie continued community service as a member and officer of the Twin Falls Board of Community Guardians. The Guardians attend to the financial and legal affairs of incapacitated seniors.
In retirement, Eenie maintained many active friendships. She faithfully attended yearly reunions and monthly luncheons of the Twin Falls High School Class of 1937 and of the Twin Falls Bank & Trust alumnae.
Eenie was preceded in death by her husband James Patrick Kelly, her parents Santiago and Francisca Alastra, brothers Jim Alastra (Pauline) and Luis Alastra (Essie). Eenie is survived by her son James P. Kelly, Esq. (Carol), Atlanta, GA, daughters Marie T. Kelly, M.D., Ft. Worth, TX, and Irene Kelly, Kensington, MD, grandchildren Mary Louise Kelly (Nicholas Boyle, Esq.), Washington, D.C., and C.J. Kelly (Jenn), Atlanta, GA, great grandsons James Cameron Boyle, Alexander Nicholas Boyle and Cache Field Kelly, nephew Donald Alastra (Jenelle), niece Donna Alastra Leopold, niece Valerie Dinkel (Matt), niece Stephanie Whittle (Jerry), and niece Janelle Severson, and friend Peg Alastra.
Eenie’s memorial services include a rosary prayer vigil at 7 p.m., Friday, January 11 at Parke’s Funeral Home, friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the rosary at the funeral home, a funeral mass at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 12 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church by Father Joseph Lustig, and internment at Sunset Memorial Park. A reception will follow at St. Edward’s Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions be made in Ynes Alastra Kelly’s name to the Basque Museum and Cultural Center, 611 West Grove Street, Boise, ID 83702.

August 10, 1939—January 5, 2019
DECLO – William Allen “Bill” Estes, a 79-year-old resident of Declo, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019, at his home.
Bill was born August 10, 1939, in Burley, Idaho, to William Woodson ‘Woody’ Estes and Cora Allen Estes, in the old Cottage Hospital. He attended schools in Declo, Burley, and Valley, graduating high school from Richland, Oregon in 1957. He then went on to graduate from the Western College of Auctioneering in Billings, Montana. In 1959, he met Dixie Lee Wickel while attending his brother Jack’s basketball game. On March 9, 1961, he married Dixie at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Albion, Idaho. To this marriage two daughters were born, Tamara and Melody.
Starting their young life together, Bill worked many jobs. He worked for Holmes construction, building the interstate through Battle Mountain, Nevada; he also helped build the interstate from Raft River to the Declo exit, and the road to Pomerelle. He was an excellent cat skinner, which in later years, he volunteered his skill dozing fire lines at local fires in the hills surrounding Declo. For a period of time, he worked for Ore-Ida at nights and traded cattle in the day. He worked for 6S Ranch cowboying and, later, went to work for Valley Livestock in Rupert. He loved this job, and Wayne May. It was customary for them to help ranchers gather and work their cattle, and then bring them to the auction in the fall. Bill had a great love for auctions and the livestock industry, and he made many life-time friendships. For years he was a partner with Gaylord Phillips, and together they held any kind of auction you could imagine. At one time during his career he was auctioneering practically everyday with sales at producers in Jerome, Gooding, Burley Livestock, Shoshone and Blackfoot.
Dixie and Bill lived in Battle Mountain, Nevada, Heyburn, Declo , Albion, and then back to Declo, when they purchased their present farm and ranch, making this their home for 47 years. Through the years, Dad had his own custom branding business, and Bill Estes and Associate Auctioneers. In his younger years he competed in the ICA Rodeos in steer wrestling and bareback.
He was a charter member of the Big D Roping club. One of the most important and meaningful positions Bill held was that of being a 4-H leader. He believed in 4-H and lived and breathed it. He was on the 4-H-leader council and was the Fat-Stock Sale Supervisor for many years. After he retired, Richard Garrard asked him to come back, which he did for quite a few years. Bill and Dixie were Grand Marshalls for Cassia County Fair & Rodeo and Declo Days. Bill was inducted into the Idaho Hall of Fame of Professional Auctioneers and was Reserve State Champion auctioneer. He was a 50-year member of the Rupert Elks Lodge, and he was an active member of the Albion and Paul Masonic Lodges for over 50 years.
Twenty-one years ago, Bill and Dixie bought a cabin overlooking Palisades reservoir, which was one of their favorite and most cherished places to go. He cherished the beauty the state of Idaho offers, and said there was no need to travel out of state, when it was all here. Through the years he took his family all over the state of Idaho. The family shared many fishing trips with Darla and O’deen Redman and their kids, and Tom Asher, into the primitive areas salmon fishing. Bill loved to entertain and held many barbeques over the summer months.
One of his biggest highlights in life was becoming a grandfather to Wyatt, Blake, Trent, Kenny, Tara, and Dee; then a “Great-PaPa” to Stetson, Brooklyn, Peyton, Rhett, Jesse, Kenlie, Jaxson, Jett, Dixie and Carter.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie; and daughters, Tamara Lynn Estes of Declo, and Melody Ann (Russ) Davis of Alturas, California; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cora; brother, Jack; grandson, Wyatt Rodgers; great-grandson, Stetson Rodgers; mothers-in-law, Carma Adams, and Patti Wickel; fathers-in-law, Dan Adams, and Wallace Wickel.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—Declo Stake Center, 213 W. Main St., with Bishop Dale Darrington officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group. Burial will be in Declo Cemetery.

July 21, 1929—January 8, 2019
Betty Allred of Burly lived an incredible life and was an incredible woman, left this earth on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at the age of 89.
Betty Lou Hillegas was born in Kimberly, Idaho, July 21, 1929, to her parents, Joseph Michael and Betty Bell (Foster) Hillegas. She was raised on the family dairy farm—milking cows, gathering eggs, and gardening. She attended school in Kimberly and was the band majorette at Kimberly High School. Betty was very musical and she played the piano all her life.
Following graduation from high school, she worked as an X-Ray technician. During this time, she met the love of her life, Jack Allred. They were married 64 years and joining this union were two children, Jackson Wayne Allred II and Jill Marie. Betty was Jack’s partner as they cleared sagebrush to farm and built their home south of Murtaugh. For many years they had a busy, profitable life.
Betty cultivated a lovely lawn and flower beds and she made their home inviting and beautiful. Betty was a philanthropist during her life. She was a close “friend” of the College of Southern Idaho, where she religiously donated her time and financial support. She sat on the college board for several years. She loved the First Presbyterian Church of Burley; spending time with the faithful members was a joy to her. She used her many attributes in helping in God’s Kingdom; she played the organ and piano; sang in the church choir; set up Kids of the Kingdom; and helped in any way she could—a true Christian in mind, heart and actions.
During retirement years, she loved to travel. She and Jack spent time visiting the different countries around the globe—learning and absorbing everything possible. Together, they served two Farmer-to-Farmer tours thru the Department of Agriculture. They toured Egypt to teach farming methods. Through the many associations experienced there, they were privileged to host the Egyptians when they visited America. Because of her love of people and the world, Betty provided the opportunity for each grandchild to travel abroad as a reward for college graduation. She was a tireless grandma. She supported all their grandchildren’s various endeavors—horse competitions, basketball and soccer games, rodeos, ski races, etc.
She was blessed with eight grandchildren with the next generation giving her eight great-grandsons! Additionally, she adored her pet poodle, “Dolly.”
Betty is survived by her son, Jackson (Laurie) Allred of Burley; a daughter, Jill (Paul) Wornell of Burley; nieces, Miriam (Dick) Smith of Twin Falls, and Susan (Bob) Johansen of Sandy, Utah; a dear friend, Claretta “Charlie” Shaffer-Rittel of Burley; a daughter adopted by heart, Nancy (Steve) Murphy of Burley; and her grandchildren, JW (Emily) Allred of Silverton, Oregon, Chelsey Wornell (Amanda) of Boise, Jeanine Allred of Hailey, and Christopher (Laura) Wornell of Burley.

Kenneth Alden Davis Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on January 14, 2019—he was 77 years old. A ‘Celebration of Life’ and open house will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 2 to 5 p.m. at 565 Butte Dr. Twin Falls, Id.
Obituaries are written many different ways, but Ken asked for it to be like a ladies skirt, long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to keep it interesting. LOL! He wanted it to be known that he was stubborn and refused doctors’ orders, deciding to take it on the chin and do it on his terms. Lung Cancer sucks!! It certainly took him much more quickly than anyone expected. He was thankful for the time to spend with all his loved ones this Christmas Season, his favorite time of year.
He was married to the love of his life, Jackie Davis for over 54 years. Their love and life together was magical, the stuff you’d find in movies or sappy love novels. Ken was also survived by his children, Wendy & Robert Kolb, Raina & Tim Petersen, Kenny & Rhonda Davis, Jr; 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; brother, Loren Davis, and sister, Twyla Stratton. My goodness, the love he had for his wife and family is beyond words ... love that could move mountains.
Kenneth Alden Davis Sr. did NOT fear death, he feared leaving all his loved ones behind ... husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend continues to teach us in death as he did in life. Stay healthy, happy and terrific “Piano Man”!! You will be dearly missed.
Cremation was under the direction of Serenity Funeral Chapel Life Celebration Center and Cremation Services of Idaho, Twin Falls. For full obituary and to leave condolences, go to www.serenityfuneralchapel.com.

August 16, 1977—January 14, 2019
Tony Ibarra was called home to be with his loving parents on January 14, 2019.
Tony was born on August 16, 1977 in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was raised on his parent’s small ranch three miles north of Gooding, Idaho. He enjoyed helping his family work on the ranch. His father also operated his own trucking company and Tony always enjoyed helping him on Sundays doing maintenance on the truck to get it ready for Monday morning.
Tony was educated through the Gooding school system. In addition to how important his classes were to him, he played football, and also developed an uncanny ability to develop relationships with classmates from all walks of life. He always wanted all people to feel like they were included and part of the group. This unique ability along with his ability to make people laugh continued throughout his life.
After Tony graduated from Gooding High School in 1995, he was employed by many different employers in the Magic Valley. Two employers that he enjoyed working for included the Gooding Seed Company, and The Catalyst Product Group located in Buhl, Idaho. In 2003 Tony, along with two partners, put together and opened the Hangar Bar in Boise, Idaho. It was successful in the years that it was open and he took great pride in this accomplishment.
Tony is survived by: his brother Dan (Jenn); his nephews, Carsen, Jenson, and Bennett; his grandmother, Dolores Rork; and his cousins, Carmen, John, Chelise, Julie, and their respective families.
He was preceded in death by: his parents Justo and Diana Ibarra; his grandfather, Kenneth Rork; his great grandmother, Susie Shaw; and numerous aunts and uncles.
What his family would hope people remember the most about Tony is how generous he was. If you were short on money, more likely than not he would give it to you, if you needed a place to stay he had a couch for you to crash on, and he always picked up the tab no matter where he was, or who he was with. He never expected nor wanted repayment for his generosity. He will be missed by his family and his numerous friends, all of whom can all tell you a story about some moment in time they had spent with Tony that they remember fondly.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel. Services will conclude at the chapel. Cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service.

July 21, 1929—January 11, 2019
George ‘Bill’ William Wallace passed away on the evening of January 11, 2019 at the age of 89 after several years in the loving care of family in Boise, Idaho. George was born in Nampa, ID on July 21, 1929 to Bessie (Bays) Wallace and Oran V. Wallace. He graduated from Nampa High School in 1947 and married Mary ‘Cathy’ Catharine Fox on June 9, 1950. George and Mary C. had been married 62 years when she passed in 2012.
As a young couple, George and Mary C. lived in many parts of southern Idaho, travelling with George’s work as a lineman for Mountain Bell at a time when stringing phone wire through the southern Idaho deserts and farmland involved horse drawn wagons for hauling telephone poles. They eventually settled in Twin Falls, Idaho in 1957 where they lived for over 55 years and raised eight children. At the time of his retirement, George held a regional managerial position yet he also spent over a decade in his earlier years as CWA (Communications Workers of America) President, passionately advocating for workers rights. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and had endless entertaining stories and lasting friendships from his years in the telecommunications industry.
George and Cathy’s life in Twin Falls was indelibly woven with the community of St. Edwards Catholic Church. They and their family were known and loved by so many through the years. George sang in the choir, served as a eucharistic minister, was a regular reader at Mass and volunteered in a myriad of ways. He and Cathy were both devoted members of the perpetual adoration chapel prayer team, spending countless hours in faith-filled service. He was generous in every way.
Work, family and community were at the center of George’s life yet he was a man of many interests and talents. Throughout his life he found joy in exploring nature and the great outdoors. Many of his fondest memories and stories were of backpacking trips in the Idaho backcountry, fishing and angling for salmon and steelhead and sharing his love of the wilderness with family and dear friends. George was an artisan in his own way, a lover and creator of beauty whether through gardening and cooking, the way he would tie a fly for his next fishing trip or shine his shoes and press a shirt. He possessed a deep appreciation for music and poetry, loved to dance, always enjoyed a well told story, a bit of bawdy humor and a good party. He wielded a quick wit, strong opinions and a hearty laugh that was often paired with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Mary Catharine was truly the love of his life and the family they created together was a legacy that filled him with deep pride and gratitude.
George is survived by by his eight children: Cecil Jones, Leslie Emerson, Hal Wallace, Elizabeth Carthan, Denise M. Wallace, Paul M. Wallace, Ivan Clay Wallace and Molly Wavra. Additionally by his much loved daughters and sons in-law Steve Emerson, Kerre Wallace, Jeff Passerotti, Cedric Carthan and Wendy Wallace as well as the beloved spouses of his grandchildren and by many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Twin Falls, Idaho on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial service at Sunset Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel in Boise and Reynolds Funeral Chapel in Twin Falls.
George loved flowers, the vibrance and color is welcomed and will be enjoyed should you feel inclined to send them. As a Doppler Radar Technician, he worked on the computer systems of several different types of aircraft, but primarily on the C-130 Hercules squadron of the 317th Tactical Airlift Wing.
John married his dear friend and sweetheart, Annette Marie “Mary” Gomez on December 22, 1973 in Buhl, Idaho. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 29, 1988. Together they established their home in Castleford and recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. They were blessed with two children, Jon Scott and Michelle Nicole.
With a life-long love of being outdoors, John abandoned career pursuits suited for the confines of four walls. He followed his entrepreneurial heart on a path in agriculture culminating in a life outside and a reputation as an innovative, quality producing dairyman and farmer. He was a hard worker always having more than one job. He worked at C3 in Twin Falls for a few years before he fully retired.
John loved his family and treasured the time spent with them. He was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many callings and loved ministering and serving others. He loved working with and mentoring youth. One of his fondest passions was mentoring young men along the completion of their Eagle Scout. He had many adventurous activities with Scouts of all ages and introduced many of them to his colorful stories which included that of the nearby canyon creature roaming just south of Balanced Rock Park. John considered his family and religion to be the greatest blessings in his life.
John enjoyed elk, deer, and antelope hunting with a rifle, bow, black powder rifle or a large caliber pistol. He enjoyed fishing everywhere, including Alaska; and recently crabbing in the Puget Sound in Washington, a very unique experience. Other hobbies included gardening, boating, skiing, photography, and traveling throughout 48 states. Writing articles for The Single Shot Exchange magazine, reading, coaching his son's baseball team, and studying the scriptures were activities he found to be rewarding. Later in life, he was introduced to the ham radio and received a General license as a ham operator. He was a devoted member of the ham radio club in Twin Falls, K7MVA Magic Valley Amateur Radio Club. John's call sign was N7MAJ and his license plate for his Tacoma remains as N7MAJ.
John is survived by his loving wife, Mary of Castleford; and two children, Jon Scott (Catherine) Wiggins of Lehi, Utah and Michelle Nicole (Sterling) Allen of Twin Falls, Idaho; six grandchildren, Melissa, Jonathan, Alexandra, Anastasia Wiggins and Brooklyn and Jacob Allen; sisters, Linda Wiggins, Gooding, Cathy (Loyd) Yarbrough; and Aunt, Barbara Barnes, Buhl. June 20, 1927—January 18, 2019
Alpha (Lolly) Lorraine Hann passed away peacefully in her sleep at Ashley Manor early January 18, 2019. She was born June 20, 1927 In Kensington, Minnesota to Albert and Lillian Flaaten. She graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, later moving to Twin Falls where she began her teaching career and where she met Ralph Hann whom she married in 1952. Ralph and Lolly were active, life-long members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She taught English at Twin Falls High School from 1963 until 1990.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, in 2010; by a sister, Marilyn, who died in infancy; and by both her parents. She is survived by her brother, Lloyd Flaaten of Kensington, Minnesota; two daughters, Gail (Steve) Kohntopp of Filer and Robin (Rick) Burke of Meridian; grandchildren Andrea Burke and Shaun Burke of Meridian; Kirsten Victor of Boise; one great-granddaughter, Astrid Ellis of Boise; and nieces and nephews.
Lolly was devoted to excellence in whatever she set her mind to accomplish. She was a devoted teacher who gained a reputation as a no-nonsense English teacher who expected top effort in her students. Yet she was kind and compassionate beneath the tough façade. Lolly also loved gardening, and she loved flowers—especially iris. She was a member of the Iris Guild for many years and experienced emotions between deep sorrow and anger when she realized that she was unable to continue caring for her much-loved iris patch. Their garden eventually expanded to fill a substantial chunk of their nearly one-acre property, and they worked long summer hours to keep it and their yard mostly weed-free and beautiful.
Lolly was an incredibly humble person who never wanted to draw even the slightest attention to herself—even asking several years ago for no obituary. Her request was acknowledged but not exactly promised, so this is more of a remembrance than an obituary regardless of which page in the newspaper it appears. In keeping, she kept beautiful oil paintings she had created hidden in a chest—not discovered until recently.
Her love of learning went far beyond just teaching. She knew the importance of—and took part in—numerous Bible studies throughout her life; she was also intrigued with languages and studied Latin, Spanish, and eventually Norwegian. Hearing Norwegian and Swedish spoken in her childhood home enabled her to more easily read and study those languages. Lolly looked deeply into her Scandinavian heritage, and for that reason tried brushing up on Norwegian in order to write to relatives in Norway. Lolly also encouraged her daughters and grandchildren to further their education in whatever way that might be. She had been a member of Sons of Norway, After-Five Christian Women’s Club, and National Council of Teachers of English as well as other organizations throughout the years.
A couple years after Ralph’s death, dementia invaded Lolly’s mind, and the horrid disease slowly drained the person everyone had known until she simply was no longer the person she had been.
Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2055 Filer Ave. E. in Twin Falls on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11 a.m. with a graveside service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Immanuel Lutheran Church or school. Condolences can be left at Whitemortuary.com.

July 10, 1958 – January 13, 2019
On January 13, 2019 Lee lost his battle to ALS, less than 14 months from his original diagnosis. Lee was a resident of Hollister, Idaho during his final year. Lee was born on July 10, 1958 to Sidney “SB” and Fronie (Kammerzell) Scantling in Dublin, Texas.
Lee lived a full life. He ranched and rode bulls in the rodeo in his younger years before moving to San Diego and joining the Navy. Lee spent 14 years in the Navy and toured the world and received his degree in mechanical engineering. His last ship was the U.S.S. Midway. After leaving the Navy, Lee spent time welding and working construction before he entered the gaming industry and was hired by Barona Resort and Casino in San Diego County. Lee worked for Barona for 18 years. After Barona, Lee worked for Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, NV, then Chinook Winds Casino Resort in Lincoln City, OR. From there Lee went to work for Jacob’s Entertainment, Inc. in Blackhawk, Colorado. Lee left the gaming industry in 2013 and moved to El Cajon, CA, where he opened his own business servicing mobile and modular homes before being forced to retire when he was diagnosed as legally blind.
Lee loved to hike, kayak, hunt, fish, and travel. He loved meeting people, spending time around his firepit visiting with friends and family, and cooking, especially grilling. He always cooked for an army, but hated leftovers, so anyone who came for supper always had something to take home with them. He loved his Traeger and was well known for his brisket, tri tips, and ribs! Lee’s other passion was the Dallas Cowboys football team, which he stayed faithful to until the end (although he joked that he would list them as Pallbearers for letting him down again for Superbowl Champions the past 23 years).
Lee loved his family and included many friends in his family circle. He was preceded in death by both his parents; his brother, Sidney Bueford Jr.; sisters, Juanita May Scantling and Catherine Marie Couch. He is survived by his spouse, Angela (Calkins); daughter, Rachelle Gall and her three children and soon-to-be grandchild; sons, Justin Lee Scantling and his four children and one grandchild; Waylon Scantling and his eight children; Dustin Scantling and his two children; Justin Garrett Scantling and his four children, and Kati Calkins and her child. Lee is also survived by his sister, Nora Christine Whitely; and brothers, Donald Wayne and Lee Wayne.
A special thank you to all of his friends, whom he considered family, who kept in contact and kept his spirits up during his battle with ALS, especially Barry Zauss, Billy Alexander, Rusty Buckley, Mike Payne, Gina Rich, Curt Spencer, Tina Drake, Morton Thompson, Lois Slane, and Jim and Pat Calkins. Lee’s family would also like to thank the Boise VA ALS Care Team, the ALS Association Evergreen Chapter, First Southern Baptist Church, Encompass Home Health & Hospice, and Horizon Home Health & Hospice for their dedication and efforts to help us through this horrible disease. Thank you also to Farmers Funeral Chapel for their assistance during these final days.
There will be a “Celebration of Life with Military Honors” held for Lee at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 31, 2019 at his home, 2692 Highway 93, Hollister, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the ALS Association, in hopes that a cure will be found.
Memories and condolences may be shared with Lee’s family at his memorial webpage at www.farmerfuneralchapel.com.

December 31, 1944—January 25, 2019
Gary Leroy Jones, a 74-year-old resident of Rupert, peacefully succumbed to his 18-month battle with cancer on Friday, January 25, 2019.
Gary was born December 31, 1944, in Burley, Idaho, to Lorna Draper Jones and Junior Arthur Jones and spent his childhood in the Almo, Burley, and Malta areas. As a young boy, Gary lost his father in 1956; he then became a father figure to his younger siblings. He attended schools in Burley, Malta, and Ledor, and later on graduated from ISU.
Gary started a hay-hauling business, which he did for several years. In 1977, he went to ISU to become a diesel mechanic and then moved to Casper, Wyoming, to work for CAT (Caterpillar Inc.). He worked for CAT for six years and then moved back to Burley to work for Don Ovitt Chevrolet. Later, he became the mechanic for Winner’s Circle and eventually took over the business. While operating Winner’s Circle, he bought a semi and branched out into the trucking business. At the time of his death, he had accumulated ten trucks and 25 trailers.
Gary worked hard, but he loved to play hard as well. He enjoyed racing in the Rupert stock car races. He teamed up with Ron Funk and bought a horse and became involved in chariot racing. He liked old cars, fishing, football (Go Raiders!), and went to every auction he could. He enjoyed being busy and never sat still for very long. He spent hours on his farm and ranch and taking care of his cattle.
On Feb. 8, 1962, Gary married Maxine Hovey, and they had two daughters, Sheila and Shannon. They were later divorced. On May 8, 1971, Gary married the love of his life, Roberta Lee Giles, and became a dad to her boys, Shane and Craig. In 1973, they were joined by their son, Gary Junior Jones.
On Nov. 19, 2018, Roberta’s prayers were answered and Gary was baptized by Pastor Rick Zimmerman at New Beginnings. He enjoyed going to church and the fellowship he found there.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta; and children, Shane (Cindy) Gill of Wyola, Montana, Sheila (Glenn) Lewis of Jerome, Idaho, Craig (Jackie) Gill of Richfield, Idaho, and Gary Junior (Danelle) Jones of Albion, Idaho; his siblings, Dean (Michelle) Jones, Randy Jones, Debbie (Wendell) Jessop, Bill Brower, and Sharon (Scott) Mecham; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Elizabeth Prestridge and Henry Leroy and Etta Jones; his parents, Junior Arthur Jones and Lorna Brower; his daughters, Cynthia Gill and Shannon Jones; and two grandchildren, Kristi Lewis and Skylar Gill.
The family would like to thank Kathryn, Barbara, and Dan from Harrison’s Hope for the love and comfort that Gary received. Special thanks to Dr. Walter Graham for his care as well.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley. Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday.

After graduation from Burley High School in 1946, Gene enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. When he was discharged, he worked various jobs around Burley. He married Shirley Edna Plank on May 15, 1949, and later that year moved to nearby Rupert to work for his father-in-law, Dr. J. H. Plank, feeding cattle. After the flood of the Teton Dam, he was transferred to Rexburg, Idaho, where he worked as a farm claims specialist helping farmers recover from the severe damages caused to their farms. After 28 years of service with USBR, he retired and began his farming career. During this time he and his wife, Shirley, played a lot of golf and traveled the southwest part of the country in the winter months.
In January of 1949, he enlisted in the Idaho Army National Guard and served 20 years with the National Guard and another ten with the U.S. Army Reserve. While in the National Guard, he was a drill instructor, tank commander, platoon leader, company commander, and staff officer at battalion and regimental headquarters. He was trained for this duty at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Forth Leavenworth, Kansas, where he graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College.
Gene is survived by his wife—just short of 70 years—Shirley; his daughters, Sandra Robertson-Hauptmann of Twin Falls, and Vicki (Gary) Warrick of Hooper, Utah; and daughter-in-law, Karen Stoker of Filer.
