MARSING - Dozens of people this week have headed to the junction of U.S. 95 and Idaho 55 near Marsing to check out the longer-than-a-football-field megaload of oil production equipment. The load is taking a three-day holiday break before starting its nearly 500-mile trek across Idaho to Montana, and eventually Canada.

The spectators have created problems on the rural state highway. The Owyhee County Sheriff's Office and Idaho State Police have issued "a handful" of citations, according to Owhyee County dispatch.

Wild Idaho Rising Tide plans to protest Friday night near Marsing. Opponents claim that the Canadian tar sands oil project will damage the environment and that the loads will damage the roads.

The load is slated to pull out of Marsing about 10 p.m. Friday and make its way along Idaho 78. The state is letting it travel from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and it must pull over every 15 minutes or so to let any traffic pass.
