BOISE • Idaho ranks fourth in the nation per capita for the number of people signing up for health insurance through an exchange.

Your Health Idaho, Idaho’s health insurance exchange, has more than 85,000 customers enrolled.

The state’s open enrollment period ended Feb. 15.

“The entire staff at Your Health Idaho is excited to know tens of thousands of Idahoans were able to find a health insurance plan to fit their needs and the needs of their family,” Executive Director Pat Kelly wrote in a statement. “This open enrollment period, Idaho launched our own technology platform and we become the first state in the nation to transition off of healthcare.gov. We would not be able to help so many Idahoans without the hard work of our state’s agents, brokers and in-person assisters.”

Idaho ranks fourth in the nation per capita for the number of residents who selected health insurance plans offered on the exchange. Florida, Maine and Georgia came in ahead of Idaho.

As of the first week of April, 85,128 Idahoans are enrolled in and paying for health insurance plans purchased through Your Health Idaho.

Although open enrollment ended in February, Idahoans who experience significant changes in their lives may qualify for a special enrollment period.

Qualifying events include getting married, having a baby, adopting a child, moving to another state or changes in employment.

The next open enrollment period starts Nov. 1 and runs through Jan. 31, 2016.
