WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Mike Simpson appears to be eyeing the chairmanship of the House Appropriations Committee.
Shortly after current chair Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen announced on Monday that he will not seek re-election in 2018, Simpson issued a statement indicating that he would consider the chairman position.
“I have been asked many times if I would be interested in a larger role on the committee someday,” Simpson said. “My response has always been and remains that it is something I will seriously consider.”
Simpson, the U.S. representative for Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District, is currently chairman of the House Appropriations Energy and Water Subcommittee.
