GOODING - Fire officials are re-closing Idaho Highway 46 north of Gooding after flames jumped the road Monday afternoon.
Firefighters began fighting the Fir Grove Fire on Sunday afternoon, which caused initial closures of portions of Highway 46 north to U.S. Highway 20. Today's closures are in the same spot, said Joshua Olsen, spokesman for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
Fire officials closed the road today after a finger of the wildfire jumped the road, Olsen said. Firefighters hope it will be a short closure. They are using single-engine air tankers to drop fire retardant to stop the sudden surge of flames.
"Hopefully we'll reopen the road soon," Olsen said.
