TWIN FALLS • A pair of Twin Falls schools were locked down after police were notified of an armed man in the area.

Twin Falls Police responded about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday to Magic Valley High School and Lincoln Elementary School and put the schools on alert after reports of a man clad in a green jacked walking near Main Avenue and Albion Street North with a rifle and a pistol, said city spokesman Josh Palmer.

After finding and questioning the man, police determined he was taking his firearms to a friend’s house for safekeeping before leaving town.

“Nothing illegal,” Palmer said.

Police contacted the man’s friend, who confirmed his story.

It’s not unusual for residents to openly carry firearms, Palmer said, but police take extra precaution when it is reported near schools.

The lockdown was lifted at about 2:20 p.m., a school district spokeswoman said.
