DIETRICH • A teen charged with sexually assaulting a football teammate last year inside a Dietrich High School locker room was arraigned Monday.

Tanner Ward, 17, is charged as an adult with one felony count of forcible penetration by use of a foreign object. His case was bound over from magistrate court to district court after a preliminary hearing last month.

Ward and two other teens are charged with attacking a teammate Oct. 22 inside a high school locker room following the team’s football practice, a prosecutor from the state’s attorney general’s office said during the preliminary hearing last month.

The teen who prosecutors say was attacked testified during last month’s hearing he was lured into a hug by one teammate before Ward and another teen attacked him with a hanger. The teammate who is accused of lured the victim into the hug is charged as a juvenile with a lesser offense.

John R.K. Howard, 18, of Keller, Texas, is charged as an adult with the same felony count of which Ward is accused. Howard, who is finishing high school in Texas, was arraigned in magistrate court the same day as Ward’s preliminary hearing last month. He’s due in court June 10 for a preliminary hearing.
