TWIN FALLS — A preliminary hearing has been delayed for a Twin Falls man accused of shooting at an occupied pickup truck.
Willie Sarratt, 50, was arrested Mar. 31 after police say he shot at a truck pulled off to the side of the road around 2600 East 3500 North. He is charged with discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle.
The driver of the truck, Vernon Massey, was pursuing his girlfriend after a fight, Massey told police. When Massey and his girlfriend pulled off to the side of the road, Sarratt pulled up beside them and got out of his car, Massey said.
Massey told police that he tried to pull around Sarratt and drive away, and Sarratt began shooting at his truck, hitting it several times.
Sarratt told officers that he was trying to prevent Massey from running him over and trying to stop him from chasing his girlfriend. A police affidavit points out, however, that the shots were to the back of Massey’s truck, not the front. Sarratt also said he was trying to shoot out of the rear driver side tire.
Court documents do not suggest Sarratt and Massey knew each other before the encounter.
Sarratt was scheduled to appear in a preliminary hearing Friday morning, but the hearing was continued.
