BURLEY — Police say a Cassia County man punched and kicked a woman, tried to strangle her and threatened to cut her with a knife.
Preston Jacob Burkhart, 31, is charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, attempted strangulation and domestic battery, inflicting traumatic injury.
A Cassia County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the sheriff’s office to take a report from a woman regarding the incidents.
The woman told officers that on Feb. 20 Burkhart struck her several times in the face with his closed fist. She said he tried to strangle her with his hands and then by using a scarf. She said he also grabbed a knife and threatened “to stab and cut her.”
The deputy said the woman had a cut on the bridge of her nose, swelling, bruising and a contusion above her right eye, bruising on her right hip where she said Burkhart kicked her, and a mark around her neck where he had attempted to strangle her.
A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Friday in Cassia County Magistrate Court.
