OAKLEY • Ray Carl Short, 60, of Oakley, has been charged with felony sexual exploitation of a child after agents from the Department of Homeland Security and deputies from the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office searched his home.

A preliminary hearing in Cassia County Magistrate Court is set for 9 a.m. July 25. His $100,000 bond was reduced to $50,000 with the condition that Short not have contact with any child younger than 18.

Short entered a plea of not guilty.

Officers entered Short’s home on a warrant issued to search for sexual images of minor children that special agents said Short allegedly received and sent from a computer.

Short allegedly told officers his laptop contained nude images of a 16-year-old male as the teen came out of the shower, according to court reports. Short told detectives he purchased a small wireless camera three to four weeks prior for security purposes and set it up to monitor the amount of time the boy spent on the computer. Short placed the camera in the child’s room without the child’s knowledge.

Officers found a folder on Short’s computer that contained nude images of the child taken from different locations within the child’s room and from above the toilet in the bathroom.

The file also contained sexual images of Short.

Short told detectives he never touched the child and he had thrown the camera away afterward.

Officers allegedly found the camera in a drawer next to Short’s chair.

If convicted, Short faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
