RUPERT — A Burley man is charged with enticing children after police say he responded to an online profile of an undercover police officer, sent unsolicited photos of his genitalia and tried to meet the officer’s 15-year-old persona.
Steven Walter Hendrix, 48, was also charged with possession of a controlled substance after he was arrested outside a Rupert residence on May 17.
Hendrix had posted on a group site asking if there was anyone who “wanted to play,” in the View area south of Burley, according to court documents.
The officer was posing as a Rupert girl.
The officer said Hendrix asked what her sexual preferences were and if they could meet. He asked where the girl lived and told her he wanted to come over and wanted her to come outside the house when he got there, police said.
When he arrived at the house, he was arrested.
Officers looked at his phone, which was open to the app that had been used to communicate with the online profile.
A K-9 officer searched his pickup and officers reported finding a black zippered bag with methamphetamine in it, along with a cooler containing several cans and a box of beer.
Hendrix told officers he did not think the girl was 15 years old and that he would probably encounter police when he arrived.
Police asked him why he came if he thought he was going to be arrested and he said he was “curious,” court records say.
A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday in Minidoka County Magistrate Court.
