TWIN FALLS — Richard Bevan’s last day on the bench in Twin Falls will be Sept. 21.
The current 5th Judicial District administrative judge, Bevan on Sept. 27 will be sworn in as an Idaho Supreme Court justice, said Sara Thomas, Idaho courts administrative director.
Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter announced Bevan’s appointment late last month. He replaces Justice Daniel Eismann, who recently retired.
Bevan will preside over cases in Twin Falls until his departure, said 5th District Trial Court Administrator Shelli Tubbs. The remaining 5th District judges will vote, likely choosing from among themselves, to decide who will succeed Bevan as administrative judge, and Tubbs said the pick will likely be known by the 21st.
Otter will fill the then-vacant 5th District judgeship after the Idaho Judicial Council goes through a selection and interview process and recommends finalists.
Bevan has said he plans to run for a full term on the Supreme Court when the seat is on the ballot next year.
