OAKLEY — Cast members have been announced for the Oakley Valley Arts Council production of the musical “Walking Happy.”

Cast members include: Wendell Wells as Henry Hobson, Denny Davis as George Beenstock, Jeremy Reichert as Minns, John Craner as Tudsbury, Dan Wright as Heeler, Elli Searle as Maggie Hobson, Cali Knowles as Alice Hobson, Tananda Call as Vickie Hobson, Been Baker as Albert Beenstock, Max Alves as Freddie Beenstock, Colleen Wood as Mrs. Hepworth, Angela Williams as Maid, Mike Harris as Tubby Wadlow, Josh Searle as Will Mossop, Ginger Armstrong as Mrs. Figgins, Erin Hansen as Customer, Bridger Harris as Handbill Boy, Alan Nelson as Denton, with Dakota Hensen, John Paskett, Ron Bosley, Evie Hansen and more ...

“Walking Happy” is a musical with music by Jimmy Van Heusen, with lyrics by Sammy Cahn and a book by Roger O. Hirson and Ketti Frings. The story is based on the play Hobson’s Choice by Harold Brighouse. The musical was nominated for six Tony Awards, including best musical. Taking place in an industrial town in Lancashire, England, in 1880, the show concerns a hard-drinking boot shop owner and his three daughters. While Alice and Vickie are anxious to get married, Hobson is happily keeping his eldest daughter Maggie unmarried since she is so helpful around the shop. Trouble ensues when Maggie decides that she wants to marry one of Hobson’s workers, Will.

The Oakley production will be directed by Deborah Jones and Mike Harris will serve as assistant director. Jones directed “Walking Happy” as the Burley High School drama teacher and said she is excited to direct it at OVAC. The musical will be presented on the Howells Opera House stage on March 8, 9, 12, 15, 16, 17, 19, 22, 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m. There will be a matinee performance on March 10 at 2 p.m. Ticket reservations and 2018 OVAC season passes are available by calling 208 677-ARTS/2787 Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets are available beginning Feb. 15 to the public. Walking Happy tickets are $10. Tickets are available to 2018 OVAC season pass holders/2018 OVAC members on Feb. 8. 2018 season passes are available during this production for $24 and then will not be available for the remaining calendar year.
