TWIN FALLS • A nine-year-old boy was injured late Saturday afternoon after getting his leg lodged between rocks in the Snake River at Pillar Falls.
“The young man is doing pretty good for the ordeal he went through,” said Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Lt. Daron Brown, who assisted with the rescue.
The boy’s family and friends were playing above Pillar Falls when he waded into knee-deep water, Brown said.
“His feet were swept out from under him and his right leg got caught between two rocks,” he said. “The current kept pushing his face under water.”
Adults on the scene held the boy’s head above water until deputies and Twin Falls County Search and Rescue units arrived.
“His family managed to free him from the rocks just as we got there,” Brown said.
The boy and his mother were taken by boat down river to Centennial Waterfront Park, where an ambulance was waiting.
He was transported to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls.
The boy “was conscious and crying,” he said. “He suffered an injury to his right knee.” Brown did not know the boy’s name or whether he is from the area.
