From the audacious guarantee by 'Broadway' Joe Namath of the New York Jets in Super Bowl III, to Woodstock, and the first man on the Moon, the year provided an abundance of memorable moments.

1969: Super Bowl III

1969: Barbara Jo Rubin

1969: California Oil Spill
Workers collect oil-soaked straw from the beach at Santa Barbara Harbor, Calif., following a leak from an off-shore well that covered area beaches. On Jan. 28, Union Oil's new drilling rig experienced a natural gas blowout, spilling 100,000 gallons of oil into the ocean. Cleanup crews laid straw on the beach in an effort to soak up the oil. 1969: 'Broadway' Joe Namath

1969: Paris Peace Talks

1969: USS Enterprise
On Jan. 14, a major fire and series of explosions broke out aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise, off the coast of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. In all, 27 sailors lost their lives and another 314 were seriously injured.
