Head coach: Sean Impomeni, 3rd year
2015 record: 5-4, 2-3 in Great Basin West Conference
Returning starters: 18
The 2015 season was a slight setback for Canyon Ridge, who made its first trip to the playoffs in 2014 but were unable to follow it up. Head coach Sean Impomeni believes this year's combination of athletes and camaraderie could lead the Riverhawks back to the promised land.
"The ratio of good athletes is up," Impomeni said. “I’m not looking for the best guys. I’m looking for the right ones. And we have a lot of those.”
The Riverhawks return quarterback Joseph Garcia and three of five starting offensive linemen from 2015. They also return running back Austin Barber, who saw significantly playing time last season.
Impomeni said that this offseason has been the best he's seen from his players since he took over the program. A big part of that is due to chemistry and leadership.
“The thing that I think we have that we didn’t have as strong last year is team chemistry. These kids really like each other a lot," Impomeni said. “It’s very refreshing. We had a good group of seniors last year, but this group of seniors and juniors seem to mesh just a little bit better together.”
