Pinecrest Academy of Idaho to open college-prep STEM focused school in August 2020

A parent/student interest meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 18, 2020, beginning at 6:30 p.m. within the historic Radio Rondevoo event center located at 247 Main Ave West in Twin Falls. All are welcome!

Students within the Twin Falls community will have an opportunity to learn through innovative learning methods and strategies at the new Pinecrest Academy of Idaho beginning in August. Within its first year, students will have access to hands-on activities that reinforce their academic goals and help them build confidence in their learning and leadership. Opening with classes in Kindergarten through grade 5, teachers and staff will integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics projects and activities into every lesson in order to increase students’ understanding and application of newly learned concepts to real world issues.

Pinecrest Academy of Idaho will accept 193 students its first year through a lottery system. Students and families interested in enrolling must log onto the school’s website at pinecrestidaho.org. It is here where families will learn about the Pinecrest mission and vision, its early beginnings, and be introduced to the newly selected principal, Denise Tomchek.

Because of her extensive leadership background in school administration at various levels, Ms. Tomchek appreciates the autonomy provided to those working within the charter school programs. It is on account of this autonomy that she and the Pinecrest Academy of Idaho School Board Members have selected the STEM model to integrate into all aspects of the school.

The Pinecrest Academy of Idaho will eventually grow into a K-8 school offering various electives that support STEM integration. The types of classes may include various levels of robotics, computer science and applications, digital broadcasting, Flight & Space – Project Lead The Way, Medical Detectives – Project Lead The Way, photography and graphic design, STEM (grade 5), and Conservatory at Pinecrest.
