TWIN FALLS • Since opening as a small, one-room store in a former creamery building 12 years ago, Real Deals on Home Décor has grown both locally and throughout North America.
The business recently celebrated 10 years of franchising by giving a new look to its boutique in the Old Creamery building, 702 Fairfield St. Real Deals has 75 locations in 19 states and four Canadian provinces, with sales of about $21 million.
The boutique’s new design is intended to inspire shoppers with a modern industrial look that includes white brick, natural woods and metal accents.
“All customers and shoppers want to feel like they’re in a place that’s very up-to-date with all the trends,” said Executive Vice President and store owner Carie Kelsey.
Tara Medley, who’s been shopping at Real Deals since it opened, said she likes the new look of the boutique better. The boutique previously featured bright teal and berry paint with modern lighting.
“It’s such a fun little store,” she said.
Real Deals has expanded from a 300 square-foot room offering home décor one day a week — to a 4,500 square-foot retail space that offers décor, clothing and accessories three days a week. New franchise owners are brought upstairs for training, Kelsey said.
Most of the staff members are women, she said. They appreciate the flexible schedule at Real Deals that allows them to put family first.
“They wanted this opportunity to use all of the talents they have to operate a business, but still have their families,” she said.
McKenna Shaw, fashion expert, started last week at Real Deals, one of four part-time jobs she works while at student at the College of Southern Idaho.
“I love retail,” she said.
Shaw said she quit another one of her jobs to come to Real Deals, liking the smaller, home-grown business.
Real Deals is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Kelsey said she is getting ready to launch online sales, but is working to iron out the details with warehousing.
