BOISE • Could your new year include more money?
The Idaho State Treasurer’s Office Unclaimed Property Program has $13,097,468.16 in newly submitted lost or forgotten money for Idahoans to claim. This money was just turned over to the State, so even if you have checked for your name in the past and didn’t find money, your name could be there now.
Businesses and organizations that cannot locate rightful owners annually submit abandoned money to the state. Where is this money coming from? Some examples include overpaid bills, utility deposits, inactive savings and checking accounts, life insurance policies, stocks and bonds.
“Although there is no time limit for a person to claim their lost money, the Unclaimed Property Program’s goal is to reunite the rightful owner with their money – to give it back,” said Cozette Walters, Unclaimed Property Program Administrator, in a statement.
