Ryan Petersen, Twin Falls, University of Utah, Football
Petersen, best known as a basketball and baseball player at Twin Falls after being forced to abandon football due to injuries, has taken an unlikely path to the Utes football team.
After several years of starring on flag football teams as a student, Petersen caught the eye of head coach Kyle Whittingham. Petersen worked out with the team over the summer and joined this fall as a walk-on wide receiver.
Though he did not record any statistics, the senior did play in the team’s opener on Thursday, completing an unlikely path to Division 1 football.
Katelyn Peterson, Camas County, University of Idaho, Volleyball
A junior, Peterson began her second season as a starter for the Vandal’s volleyball team Friday in losses to Oklahoma and Florida before leading the team to its first win of the season Saturday against Georgia Southern.
Peterson led the Vandals in kills in two of the three games, notching 18 in Saturday’s win. She has 33 thus far on the year.
At Camas County, Peterson led her team to three state titles and earned all-state honors three times. She was twice named area player of the year by the Times-News.
