MAGIC VALLEY FESTIVAL OF GIVING FAMILY DAY anything we can to help make the kids’ lives more normal,” said Peterson. “And the Festival is so great—you get to see all these beautiful trees. The Gala, BBQ, Brews & Bids and other events—are great ways to make holiday memories.” Santa may be the star of the show. But the jolly ol’ fellow gets a little help from some of the world’s most beloved fairy tale characters during the Magic Valley Festival of Giving’s Family Day. This year’s Family Day will be held from noon to 5p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24th at Fleur de Lis Ranch. One of the highlights, as always, is a lineup of princesses who are more than eager to pose for pictures with the children from 1 to 3p.m. Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, “Aladdin’s” Jasmine, “Brave’s” Merida and “Frozen’s” Elsa will all be there, courtesy of youngsters involved with JuMP Company, a nonprofit children’s musical theater organization. If past years are any indication, they will be joined by dozens of other little girls dressed as their favorite princesses. “The kids love it and it’s so cute seeing all the little kids dress up together, their pictures taken, “said Linda Williams, a board member with JuMP. “I love seeing how excited the little girls get when they see the princesses.” Family Day at the Magic Valley’s Festival of Giving is a kaleidoscope of holiday color and activity, accessible for a mere dollar, or an unwrapped toy or a canned food item. Families can peruse 60 holiday trees and wreaths decorated for this year’s festival and listen to live holiday entertainment. Santa’s Cause is among the nonprofits that will benefit from the money raised during the Festival of Giving. The organization provides toys and stockings for each of the Magic Valley’s 250 foster children. With the Festival’s help, the organization has been able to provide scholarships to high school graduates in the foster care system and braces for some of the youngsters. “Medicaid doesn’t pay for things that are considered cosmetic and yet many of our children are teased because of their smiles. Providing braces fits with our mission, part of which focuses on anti-bullying said Kelly Peterson, executive director of Santa’s Cause. JuMP Company is another grateful recipient of the Festival’s earnings. Founded in 1984, it introduces theater and music to children in grades 2 through 12. It puts on two productions a year and donations from the festival help pay for licensing fees to use the script, the music and building sets and securing costumes, which can cost as much as $3,000 for lavish productions like “Cinderella.” In addition to providing a platform for children to express their creativity, JuMP has provided $75,000 in scholarships for graduating seniors in its 34 years. “There is a theater class in high school but it’s often hard for kids to fit it in with all the other classes they have to take, “Williams said. “JuMP helps youngsters with things like public speaking and self-esteem. It teaches them about taking responsibility for their costumes and commitment in being at rehearsal and working hard when there. It provides a lot of positive things in a world when a lot of things aren’t so great. The Festival of Giving and sponsors help make that possible.” The festival is the biggest fundraiser for the organization, which has served more than 2,000 children over the past 13 years, said Peterson. Last year they received a check for over $13,000 from the festival. One of the board members designs the trees, which in the past have had themes centered around Dr. Seuss, the Peanuts gang and Disneyland’s “It’s a Small World.” “Idaho has one of the lowest stipends in the nation for foster parents so we’re looking to do Fleur de Lis Ranch 3477 N. 2900 E.
