LAS VEGAS - Boise State has been picked by the media to be the first champion of football's Mountain Division of the Mountain West Conference.
The preseason media picks were announced to kick off the conference's media days, which are Monday and Tuesday.
Boise State got 40 of 41 first-place votes and earned 245 points. Utah State got the other vote and picked up 204 points.
Fresno State was the runaway prediction to win the West Division, picking up 39 of 41 first-place votes but earning a 62-point gap over second place San Diego State.
The two division champions will contest the inaugural Mountain West championship game, to be hosted by the participant with the higher BCS ranking.
BSU Lands Three on Preseason All-MW Team
The Broncos also had some good news on the preseason all-conference front, landing offensive lineman Matt Paradis and Charles Leno Jr., and defensive lineman Demarcus Lawrence on the lists.
Paradis and Lawrence were all-conference selections in 2012, while Leno gained second-team honors.
Fresno State had the most players on the preseason all-conference list with seven, including both player of the year selections -- quarterback Derek Carr and defensive back Derron Smith.
