Girls athlete of the week: Kyra Azevedo, Buhl

Azevedo scored a game-high 16 points in her lone appearance last week, but that only tells a fraction of the story. The junior guard led the Buhl girls basketball team to a 47-45 overtime win over Filer on Wednesday for the Sawtooth Central Idaho Conference championship, and she hit the game-winner: a jumper from the right elbow with about six seconds remaining. The win ended Buhl’s 15-year state tournament drought.

Boys athlete of the week: Pablo Miranda, Murtaugh

Miranda played one game last week, and he put up two games’ worth of points. The senior scored a game-high 29-points on five 3-pointers the Murtaugh boys basketball team’s 74-58 regular season-ending win over Shoshone on Monday. The Red Devils head into the North Side Conference tournament this week as the No. 3 seed.
