Girls athlete of the week: Taylia Stimpson, Minico

Stimpson helped the Minico girls basketball team improve to 3-0 in the Great Basin Conference with a pair of wins this past week. On Wednesday, she tied the game-high with 11 points in a 52-45 home win over Twin Falls, which was previously unbeaten in conference play. Two days later, Stimpson scored a game-high 20 points in a 58-34 road win over GBC foe Wood River.

Boys athlete of the week: Trey Smith, Camas County

Smith went off on Monday, scoring a game-high 37 points in the Camas County boys basketball team’s 68-52 victory at North Side Conference opponent Richfield. He made 14 field goals and sunk 9-of-12 free throws.

“He kinda did what he wanted to do,” Richfield coach Chris Taber said. “He had a heck of a game.”
