Boys athlete of the week: Keegan Chatburn, Raft River
Raft River’s season-opening football game against Oakley on Friday was Chatburn’s first as the Trojans’ starting varsity quarterback. The junior was replacing graduated star quarterback Kolten Hitt, and he made the transition look seamless.
Chatburn ran for 174 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries, and he completed 13-of-25 passes for 92 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. That production led the Trojans to a thrilling 46-42 home win over the rival Hornets, the top-ranked 1A Division I in the state media poll.
Girls athlete of the week: Haylee Grossman, Lighthouse Christian
Grossman led the Lighthouse volleyball team to a 3-0 record last week. In a season-opening win over rival Dietrich on Tuesday, Grossman led the Lions with 17 kills, 10 digs and two blocks. Two days later, the senior finished with 25 kills and 12 blocks, combined, in a tri-match against Carey and Shoshone.
