TWIN FALLS — Coming off the best girls soccer season in school history, the Riverhawks and their 10 returning starters played a strong 5A Madison to a 1-1 draw Tuesday afternoon.

Clarissa Henderson scored Canyon Ridge’s lone goal. Because it was a non-conference game, there was no overtime or penalty kicks.

Canyon Ridge had beaten Pocatello and Rigby by a combined 9-1 score to start the season.

Riverhawks’ head coach Christa Tackett is pleased with her team’s start.

“The girls are working really well together and fixing the mistakes we have made in previous games,” Tackett said. “This team wants it; it has a drive. Those that play together trust each other and are stronger.”

With so much experienced talent, the expectations are naturally higher for Canyon Ridge in 2016, especially with all of the talent graduated across town, as the Bruins edged out their crosstown rival for the district championship last season.

On paper it should be the year Canyon Ridge claims its first Great Basin Crown. But the work has just begun.

“The goal is to get back to state and do better than we did last year,” Tackett said. “Our goal is always to better what we did last season. Our strength is when we pass and play simple.”
