Bliss 5, Snake River 1

CALDWELL — Bliss wasted no time asserting its dominance Friday in a 3A state semifinal game. Steven Rubio scored three goals in the first half, and Fernando Marez scored one to give the Bears a 4-0 halftime lead.

Rubio added a fourth goal in the second half for good measure, propelling Bliss to the 3A state championship game against Weiser in the process.

“Having Steven up top frees us to put some of our fastest and best players in the back, which will be absolutely crucial playing a tough team like Weiser,” said Bliss head coach Dustin Henkelman.

Bliss will take on Weiser at 1 p.m. Saturday in the 3A state championship game. Last year, the Bears finished third at the state tournament.

Wood River 2, Ridgevue 1

CALDWELL — The Wolverines are off to the 4A state title game, their first since 2013, after a win over Ridgevue on Friday at Brothers Park.

Ridgevue (18-2-1) scored in the 59th minute on a penalty kick to cut the deficit in half.

“We had to hold it down for another 20 minutes, and the boys did good,” Wood River coach Luis Monjaras said. “We did manage to put on pressure on them early on, kinda frustrate them and take them out of their rhythm.”

Wood River (16-2-1) will play Caldwell (14-4-3) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Middleton High School. In the Wolverines’ last trip to the 4A state title match, they lost to Great Basin Conference foe Jerome 3-1.

The Bruins scored three more goals in the second half. Glascock picked up her second goal of the match off an assist by Ellie Jackson that was followed by a second goal by Bailey off another assist by Jackson. Valdez finished off the Twin Falls scoring on a penalty kick.

Community School 3, Sugar-Salem 2

CALDWELL — The Cutthroats are still in the running for fourth place after defeating Sugar-Salem in overtime of a loser-out match in the 3A state soccer tournament at Vallivue High School Friday.

The Cutthroats held a 1-0 lead at the half on a goal by Libby Kaiser. Their top scorer, Lily Fitzgerald, added a second goal midway through the second half, but Sugar-Salem scored a pair of goals late in the match to force overtime. Fitzgerald scored in the first couple of minutes to give the Cutthroats the win.

“Our defense has been outstanding and the girls — Anik Zarkos, Skylar Cooley, Eilza Marks, and Caroline Estep — have played every minute of both games,” said Community School coach Kelly Feldman. “It has truly been a team effort. Everybody has contributed and given everything in every play. We are certainly playing for each other.”
