MOSCOW — The Oakley High School football team’s season came to end Friday in a 42-36 loss to Prairie in the 1A Division I state semifinals.
Oakley answered Prairie’s opening touchdown with an 83-yard return on the ensuing kickoff from Chandler Jones. Prairie responded with two more touchdowns to take a 22-8 lead after one quarter, but Oakley trailed just 28-22 at halftime. A Jones 55-yard punt return set up the second touchdown.
The Hornets took their first lead in the third quarter, in which they outscored Prairie 14-0. But the Pirates outscored Oakley 14-0 in the fourth. An interception in deep Oakley territory set-up Prairie’s game-tying touchdown midway through the fourth.
Jones accounted for four of the Hornets’ five touchdowns.
