TWIN FALLS – A goal by Tatiana Martinez (Kyla Teixeira assist) late in the first half was all Wendell needed in its High Desert Conference tournament-opening win Saturday afternoon at the Sunway Soccer Complex.

“We’re very happy that we came out on top, but Bliss definitely gave us a run for our money,” Wendell coach Grace Silva said.

The fourth-seeded Trojans (6-7-1) travel to top-seeded Community School on Tuesday.

The No. 5 Bears finished their season at 3-10-1.

Declo 2, Gooding 1

TWIN FALLS – The Hornets erased a 1-0 halftime deficit and ended the Senators’ season Saturday in the first round of the High Desert Conference tournament.

Declo scored both of its goals early in the second half.

“They played really well,” Declo coach Jeralee Jones said. “They’re a great group of girls.”

The second-seeded Hornets (10-3) host Buhl on Tuesday.

No. 6 Gooding’s season ended with a 1-9-3 record.

Buhl 2, Filer 0

TWIN FALLS – The Indians shut out the Wildcats in the opening round of the High Desert Conference tournament.

Kyra Azevedo and Madison Somers scored for third-seeded Buhl (6-7-1), which plays at Declo on Tuesday.

No. 6 Filer finished with a 2-11-4 record on the year.

Wendell 4, Declo 1

TWIN FALLS – The Trojans earned their second win of the season and their first over Declo at the perfect time, in the first round of the High Desert Conference tournament Saturday at the Sunway Soccer Complex.

Declo beat Wendell 2-1 and 3-2 in the regular season.

Luis Rodriguez, Carlos Pineda, Harold Perez and Christian Rodriguez scored for the sixth-seeded Trojans (2-10-2), who play at Community School on Tuesday.

Trey Smyer scored for the No. 3 Hornets, whose season ended at 5-6-2.

Buhl 3, Filer 2

TWIN FALLS – The Indians erased a 2-0 halftime deficit to keep their season alive and advance in the High Desert Conference tournament.

Victor Quezada and Israel Zarazua scored first for Buhl, and Jose Limas netted the winner with about a minute left in regulation.

Tristan Sullivan and Iziah Rodriguez scored for fourth-seeded Filer, which ended the season at 7-8-2.

No. 5 Buhl (7-7-2) plays at top-seeded Bliss on Tuesday.

Community School 5, Gooding 0

TWIN FALLS – A monster second half led the Cutthroats to a win over the Senators in the first round of the High Desert Conference tournament.

The score was 0-0 at halftime.

Charlie Stumph scored two goals, and Henry Cherp, Shea Brokaw and Cash Dart each scored one. Dart has now scored in 17 straight games.

Second-seeded Community School (14-3) hosts Declo on Tuesday. No. 7 Gooding’s season concluded with a 2-13-1 record.
