Canyon Ridge 2, Burley 2 (PKs)

TWIN FALLS — The Riverhawks advanced to the Great Basin Conference tournament championship game with an intense win over the Bobcats Wednesday.

Canyon Ridge’s Sagar Bhattarai scored the only goal of the first half on an assist from fellow senior Abdelgadir Mohamed. Burley tied it up, Bhattarai scored again (Rigo Garcia assist) and Burley found the net a few minutes later to knot the score up at 2-2.

The tie lasted through two overtimes, and the first six players for both teams made their penalty kicks. In the seventh round, senior goalkeeper Jair Garibay made a save to give the Riverhawks the win.

“PKs are always exciting, especially when you finish on top,” Canyon Ridge coach Corey Farnsworth said.

Jesse Cardenas and Erik Marquez scored for Burley (9-7-1), which falls to the losers bracket. If Wood River beats Twin Falls on Thursday, the Bobcats will host Jerome on Monday. If Twin Falls wins, Burley will play the winner of Jerome-Wood River.

Canyon Ridge (11-3-2) will either host Twin Falls or play at Wood River on Wednesday for the district title and a state tournament berth.

“We know we can play with anybody as long as do what we’re capable of,’ Farnsworth said.

Bulmaro Alvarez, Jose Romero and Alfredo Ortiz scored for the Tigers (6-9-1), who will play at Burley or Twin Falls in another loser-out game on Monday.
