Gooding 53, Priest River 8
MCCALL — The Senators were dominant in every facet of Saturday’s nonconference 3A win at McCall-Donnelly High School.
Gooding (4-1) allowed 45 total yards, including minus-15 on the ground, in the game. Senators coach Cameron Andersen said the Spartans picked up 48 of those yards late in the fourth quarter, when the backups were in.
“The line of scrimmages were dominated by us, which has kinda been a theme in games we’ve been able to win big,” Andersen said. “Defensively, it was overwhelming.”
Gooding senior linebacker Ruger Jennings had 14 tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack, while junior lineman Jake McGinnis compiled nine tackles (five for loss).
Gooding’s star running back Mike Needham suffered an injury on the second series of the game and did not return. Andersen said the senior is questionable to play in Friday’s conference game at Kimberly.
Needham’s absence did not slow down the Senators.
Sophomore quarterback Shane Jennings completed 7-of-11 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns, and he rushed for 51 yards and a score on six carries. Needham’s main replacement, junior Cade Morris, rushed for 108 yards and three TDs on seven carries.
“Cade did a great job of coming in and filling in,” Andersen said.
